Demolition of the Public Transport Authority houses in Merredin began recently with each house being dismantled separately.
Merredin contractor Murfit Enterprises has been awarded the salvage rights to dispose of the houses located on Todd Street.
Mr Murfit said much of the material from the demolition project would be recycled.
Window and door frames, timber and floorboards, bricks and outbuildings would be stored then be available for sale at a later date.
He said enquiries about purchasing items from the houses were welcome on 9041 2717.
The demolition project is employing four people, one of which was Tore Eriksen, who lived in one of the houses as a young boy when his family first moved to Merredin in the 1980s.
He said it was sad to be knocking the house down because there were a lot of good memories and history in it.
“I spent most of my childhood in this house but am happy to see most of it being recycled so people can get a piece of history,” he said.
Demolition of the houses is expected to be completed by the end of July.
