A LOCAL woman is taking note of the Heart Foudation’s Draw the Line campaign and has already lost four kilograms.
The campaign encourages people to ‘draw the line’ on unhealthy weight gain by finding time for regular physical activity and making healthier food choices.
Narembeen woman Yvonne King said she had cut her meals in half and joined a gym as she approached the age of 40.
“I’ve cut my serving sizes in half and only eat small amounts of meat,” Mrs King said.
“Also, I don’t skip meals any more so I don’t eat the wrong things when I do eat, and I make sure I have fruit for morning and afternoon tea.”
Cooking for three active teenage boys, Mrs King said she found it was easy to overeat if she didn’t watch her portions.
“I’ve lost four and a half kilograms and I hope it keeps coming off because I’d like to lose more,” she said.
Mrs King said she had combined her healthier eating with visits four times a week to a gym set up at the local hospital.
“I do about 20 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weights,” she said.
She made time for the gym sessions in her day by starting at 6am.
“It’s been hard this winter because it’s dark and cold at that time of the morning, but I find when I do go, I have more energy for the rest of the day and I feel much better,” she said.
Mrs King has had the support of her family and the gym co-ordinator, who encouraged her to keep going.
However, she said her main motivation was staying healthy so she could live longer to be with her children.
“I got too busy and let myself put on weight and got into unhealthy habits, but I decided to make some changes as I was about to turn 40,” Mrs King said.
“I’ve got three boys aged 15, 16 and 17 and I want to stay healthy and be around for them,” she said.
