MAJOR upgrades of the Merredin District Hospital, including the Northam, Narrogin and Katanning hospitals, were one step closer with building condition audits under way.
Member for the Agricultural Region Mia Davies said the audits would be carried out by teams of architects and building surveyors, as well as electrical and structural engineers.
“Once prepared the results will be reviewed and used to prioritise works,” Ms Davies said.
The upgrades are a part of the state government’s Southern Inland Health Initiative, which is funded by Royalties for Regions.
The project is also assisted by the Department of Finance’s Building Management and Works team.
“The Southern Inland Health Initiative is ushering in a new era in health services for people living in the southern inland area,” Ms Davies said.
“As well as major hospital upgrades there will be the development of new facilities or refurbishment of small hospitals and nursing posts across the Wheatbelt.
“Over the next five years, the State Inland Health Initiative will invest $240 million in the regional health workforce and $325 million in capital works.”
