THREE Police officers from Wheatbelt one-man stations received promotions to sergeant rank at a small ceremony at Merredin Police Station last Wednesday.
Wheatbelt District Superintendant Ian Calderwood presented new lapel strips to the officers, with assistance of the officers' family members.
John Ingham, currently based at Wyalkatchem, Ian Bull, currently posted to Bencubbin and Aaron Honey, from Narembeen, all received the promotion to Sergeant.
Superintendent Calderwood said that the three officers were all "top blokes" and that they had earned the honor.
Aaron Honey said that he was "shocked and very excited" when told the news.
Lisa Ingham, wife of John, assisted Superintendent Calderwood in replacing his lapel strips with the new rank strip during the ceremony.
Superintendent Calderwood highlighted the importance of the wives and families as support for the officers during their careers.
" I always invite the wives to attend these occasions as they provide so much support to their partners, he said.
He also said that the promotions showed that young men at one-man stations who ran their own stations and in effect sub-districts, had good opportunities to progress through the ranks from this diverse experience.
The three officers have been given new postings.
Sergeant Ingham will transfer to Joondalup, Sergeant Bull will transfer to Midland and Sergeant Honey will also got to Joondalup.
Superintendent Calderwood said that officers would be transferred into the vacancies that will occur at the three stations as a result of the promotions.
Police Union field officer Neil Clarke, who has recently being visiting police stations throughout the Wheatbelt, also attended the ceremony along with Inspector Frank Audas, who is inspector in-charge of the Eastern Zone of the Wheatbelt district.
The officers' promotions took effect from April 16.
