Regional land and housing information goes online

03 Feb, 2012 10:20 AM
A NEW online application is giving people living in regional WA better access to information about land and housing supply.

Department of Planning director general Eric Lumsden said the new State of Land and Housing Supply: Regional WA application provided people outside the metropolitan area with the key demand and supply trends for all regional local governments and areas.

“By providing the current information about land and housing supply in dynamic maps, charts and summary tables online, the department is able to assist people to make informed investment decisions,” Mr Lumsden said.

“Following the success of the online resource in the metropolitan area, this has now been rolled out to all other local governments across the state and represents a major step forward in the convenience and ease of access to this type of information.”

The application was prepared as part of the Urban Development Program and reports on the key demand drivers of population, labour force and incomes.

In addition to these key drivers the application also contains the status of planning approvals, land development and building approvals.

Mr Lumsden said much of the data was updated quarterly and many of the statistics could be downloaded from the site in spreadsheets.

“Users can view data for individual local governments or show summaries at sub-region and region scales and easily compare two or more areas,” he said.

All editions of the State of Land and Housing Supply have been prepared with the cooperation of the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Water Corporation, the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia, Landgate and the Department of Education, Employment and Work Place Relations.

The State of Land and Housing Supply: Regional WA and other Urban Development Program information can be accessed online at www.planning.wa.gov.au.
