Roll up, roll up the show is back in town

THE Merredin Show returns on March 27 after an absence of more than two years.

The show scheduled for April last year was cancelled due to a lack of community members volunteering to help organise it.

Since then a number of enthusiastic volunteers have been recruited to organise the biggest and best show yet.

Organisers said they were planning make up for the long absence with a variety of fun and entertainment.

“The day will start with a float parade, beginning on the corner of Barrack and King Street at 9.30am and the show gates at the Merredin Recreation Ground on Bates Street will open at 10am,” show committee spokesperson Linda Rooney said.

Tickets will be $10 for adults, $8 for concession holders and $5 for children.

“As an agricultural show it will feature a wool competition, poultry competition, exhibitions, equestrian event and cow pat lotto, as well as a car show, truck muster and helicopter rides,” Linda said.

“Entertainment for the young and young at heart will include a laser skirmish, monster balls, show rides, sideshow alley, slides, bouncy castles, camel rides, goggles the goose, bucking bull, baby animals, GWN’s Doopa Dog.

“There will also be live performances including ‘Sydney or the Bush’, the “Australian Outback Show”, a 10th Light Horse Display, local belly dancers, local bootscooters, local Tai Kwon Do, fire shows, and a fireworks display.

“To complete the day, popular Perth band Dr Bogus will be performing fully costumed tributes to all your favorite songs and artists, starting at 8.30pm.

“The entry fee for the concert is $20 for adults and $10 for under 18s and tickets can be purchased from the Merredin Rec Centre on 9041 3033.”

Attempting to beat the world record of the largest number of human dominoes will also be a show attraction.

“Participants will collect a mattress each and stand in a long line around the oval with the mattress upright behind them, then the first person will then fall backwards onto the second, creating a long line of human dominoes,” Linda said.

“To achieve the record of more than 180 human dominoes, a number of mattresses are being donated, however anyone who is interested in participating is invited to bring their own mattress to the show in exchange for free entry.”
