Bank manager takes the plunge

04 Mar, 2010 10:50 AM
BRUCE Rock Swimming Club members will have a sharp new look when they travel to compete in swimming carnivals thanks to a $1400 donation from the Bruce Rock Community Bank Branch Bendigo Bank.

Bank manager Alex Dickson presented the cheque for the purchase of club shirts for members on February 18 and even jumped into the pool fully clothed to show his support of swimming.

Swimming club president Troy Fazey presented the club shirts to junior and senior members, coaches Mel Gmeiner and Sam Aurisch and pool manager Roneta McNally.

“Everyone is very excited to receive their shirts and to be recognisable as a team,” Mr Fazey said.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of the Bruce Rock Community Bank Branch Bendigo Bank and it is great to see a bank prepared to invest in the future of our town and children.”

Mr Dickson said the branch had been established and funded by community members and it was a great pleasure to be able to give back to the community through sponsorship.

“We have sponsored a number of clubs and events over the past 18 months, however the Bruce Rock Swimming Club has been our biggest sponsorship so far,” he said.

Branch directors Ian Butler and Merredith Thornton also attended the presentation.

“Alex has been a great sport and is more than happy to get involved with community activities,” Merredith said.

She also reminded the people present that it was the bank’s support that had enabled the sponsorship to take place.

“Although we have only been open for 23 months, we have been steadily growing our business,” she said.

“The more people who place their business with our community bank, the more money we can put back into the community.
