East Avon women on their game

02 Jul, 2009 11:13 AM
THE East Avon Women’s Hockey Association sent three sides to Perth on the weekend of June 19, 20 and 21 to compete in the Co-operative Bulk Handling Women’s State Country Championships.

The A team played in division two and won all their games to be on top of their pool and played Lower Great Southern in a cross over game which they won three goals to one after going to flicks.

The team went on to play Eastern Goldfields in the final but went down 3-0.

The second side played in division five and ended up third out of seven teams with four wins and two losses.

The Vets team did not lose a game and drew with Central Midlands on the last morning in a thriller but as Central Midlands had scored more goals during the weekend, they were the winners of Vets

Division 2 and East Avon were runners up.

Caroline Robinson was selected for the Allstars team and Shelley Lombardini and Rochelle Osbourne in the Vets Allstar team.

The association was awarded the Fallows Cup for being well presented and generally the “nice guys” of the championships.

Thanks go to coaches, Phil Wass, David Fox and Mick Trevethan and umpires John Ward and Rodney Thornton.
