KEEPING fit is now even easier for Westonia locals after the opening of a free community gym.
A wide range of modern exercise equipment and weights have been installed in the Westonia Hall thanks to a partnership between the Westonia Shire and mining company Catalpa.
Use of the gym is free to the Westonia community and staff of the Edna May Mine.
Westonia Shire chief executive Bill Price said the gym had been well utilised since its opening.
“There are more than 20 users per day,” he said.
“The gym is accessible for all ages, including our regular group of seniors who come for a workout every morning.”
Catalpa’s Occupational Health and Safety coordinator Sara McKinney said she was looking forward to implementing fitness programs at the gym.
“I will offer a gym induction to show people how to use the equipment safely,” she said.
“I also plan to hold circuit classes and can also offer one-on-one personally tailored training to suit the needs of gym users.”
