Stirrat and Pollard win open day

25 Feb, 2010 10:57 AM
SIXTY-four men from all over the Wheatbelt and beyond attended the Nungarin Tennis Club’s Men’s Open Day on Wednesday, February 10.

The club was overwhelmed with registrations for the event, for which they could only accept 32 pairs and so some applicants had to be turned away.

Competitors travelled from Perth, Bunbury, Dowerin, Quairading, Merredin and many other places to participate in the popular event despite the scorching conditions.

Large sponsorship provided good prizes, with first prize eventually going to the A-grade winners, locals Scott Stirrat and David Pollard.

Runners up were Jeff Hooper and Derek Hooper and in third place were Merredin’s Matt Smith and Camray Gethin.

Andrew Crook and Gavin Thomas, also from Merredin, were named the hardest working.

In B-grade the winners were Greg Hooper and Kim Craig, runners up were locals Mick Caughey and Paul Steber and in third place was Ryan Hetherington and Jordan Lynch.

Gambit Alvaro and Mark Cattle were named the hardest working.

In C-grade, the winners were Kit Tyson and Stuart Timms, runners up were Josh Bush and Luke Growden and third place went to Ray Robertson and Len Weir.

Greg Hayes and Scott Richards were named the hardest working.

D-grade saw some family pairs, with first place going to Cliff and Ambrose Nock, while Kevin and Gavin Cornish came second. Rex Louis and Will Bergen came third and the hardest working were George Booth and Neil Constantine.
