Tammin win thriller

02 Jul, 2009 11:16 AM
THE second round of East Avon Women’s Hockey Association’s season starteded at the weekend, following a general bye for Women’s Country Week.

Merredin was eager to build on their positive start to the season when they met Tammin in windy winter conditions on Saturday.

Tammin, true to form, attacked hard early in an unwavering assault at the goals.

Merredin kept them at bay through a determined defence and the agility of goalie Hutton, until Tammin’s relentlessness paid dividends prior to half time, with a goal coming from field play.

The dynamics of the game shifted following the break, and it was Merredin’s turn to dominate the attack.

A number of scoring opportunities were created for the home team with no net result, Tammin being victorious 1-0.

Goal scorer was Charmaine Thompson.

Best player for Merredin was awarded to Shelley Lombardini and coach’s award went to Pip Kirby for her dependable work in the backline.

Thank you to Kathy Whittick and Lyn Hedland for braving the weather to umpire.

Merredin will have another tough match this weekend, hosting Meckering.

The women’s game will be immediately followed by a men’s home game fixture.

In other games played in the East Avon Women’s Hockey Association, Meckering defeated Burracoppin 3-0.

Goal scorers were Chantelle Leeson, Wendy Leeson and Brianne Hitchcock.

Kellerberrin drew with Quairading 1 -1
