Wheatbelt cricket cricket amalgamated

22 Oct, 2009 11:03 AM
It’s warming up and it is time for the cricket season, but there is a change this year for Wheatbelt players.

The Merredin Cricket Association has amalgamated with the Bruce Rock and Narembeen Associations.

With the future in mind and a decline in numbers this is a step in the right direction for keeping cricket alive and well in the Wheatbelt area.

The competition will now consist of seven teams, and the action began on Saturday as the CCC’s hosted Bruce Rock.

Shack Ardath batted first and scored 211 off their 45 overs. CCC’s in reply fell short, scoring 146.

Nungarin headed to Corrigin and made a good start with 260 from the 45 overs and backed this up well with the ball, dismissing Corrigin for only 66.

Nukarni also hit the road and took on Narembeen.

Nukarni batted first and made 120, with Narembeen chasing the target down with ease and only one wicket down.

Kondinin had the bye.

The B Grade competition in the Merredin Association has not started yet and the numbers are looking light on.

If anyone is interested in getting involved in the B Grade they can call Gavin on 0428 411 786.

Nukarni and CCC’s train on Tuesday and Friday nights respectively at the Merredin Recreation and Leisure Centre on the main oval and all are welcome.
